N6 is the latest version of NUD*IST. It is available only
for pcs. Public workshops will only be offered in N6. We will offer N4, N5
and N6 workshops for on-site training.
Day One
gives an
overview of the whole programme with an opportunity for participants to try
out the programme using SdG computer exercises based on the data from the
NoSmoke tutorial which comes with the package. Topics covered include
document preparation for both structured and unstructured data; creating
nodes and coding; principles for designing the Index Tree; and Text Searches.
Participants will be taught how to use the Command Assistant to automatically
code for structured questions and speakers in focus groups. Importation of
demographic information from Excel will also be covered.
Day Two
of the
introductory programme finishes the overview with a thorough account of the
Index Searches. In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to
work with their own data.
The cost is £325 + VAT (academic/public sector rates) or
£425 + VAT (commercial rate) per person. This includes workshop materials,
lunch, tea/coffee but not accommodation. Each participant will receive a
course pack, which includes a workshop handbook. The workshop will take place
at City University, Northampton Square, London EC1V 0HB. (It is very close to
Angel Station and on the Northern Line and not far from Kings Cross railway
station.) If you need accommodation, you will have to arrange that
separately.[This workshop is a 'bring your own laptop' workshop. If you do
not have a laptop, please indicate this on your application form. An
additional charge will be made for the provision of a computer.]

I want to acknowledge with gratitude the excellent NUDIST
training and support provided by Silvana di Gregorio. She is able to provide a
lucid and interesting introduction to complex software in a very short space
of time. In her courses Silvana takes an interest in the various forms of
research that participants are conducting or planning and tailors her
teaching according to the participants' level of prior exposure to
qualitative research. Importantly, NUDIST is not 'sold' as the solution to
all qualitative data analysis but its assets as well as limitations are
demonstrated and very clear handouts are provided that later proved to be essential
reference tools.
