N6 is the latest version of NUD*IST. It is available only
for pcs. Public workshops will only be offered in N6. We will offer N4, N5
and N6 workshops for on-site training.
Day One
gives an
overview of the whole programme with an opportunity for participants to try
out the programme using SdG computer exercises based on the data from the
NoSmoke tutorial which comes with the package. Topics covered include
document preparation for both structured and unstructured data; creating
nodes and coding; principles for designing the Index Tree; and Text Searches.
Participants will be taught how to use the Command Assistant to automatically
code for structured questions and speakers in focus groups. Importation of
demographic information from Excel will also be covered.
Day Two
of the
introductory programme finishes the overview with a thorough account of the
Index Searches. In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to
work with their own data.
The cost for the two days is $600 (academic/ public sector
discount rate) or $699 (commercial rate) per person. This includes workshop
materials, tea/coffee but not accommodation. Each participant will receive a
course pack, which includes a workshop handbook. The workshop will take place
at the John Hancock Conference Center (off Copley Square in Boston's Back Bay). If you need
accommodation, you will have to arrange that separately. [This workshop is a
'bring your own laptop' workshop. If you do not have a laptop, please
indicate this on your application form. An additional charge will be made for
the provision of a computer.]

The NUD*IST workshops provided us with a wealth of
information on setting up a new project and incorporating new text into the
database. We had the opportunity to discuss various strategies for coding and
analyzing. Everyone left the workshops enthused about what we had learned.
The way you tailored the workshops to our information needs and work
practices was also very helpful.
