Software Developers Sites

It is well worth having a look at these web-sites if you are considering using a software package for qualitative analysis. All have an area where you can download demo versions of the software. In addition, they have a store of information about the software. There are references and often articles that you can download about research which have used the software.

Discussion Lists on qualitative software packages

These discussion groups are invaluable if you are using software for qualitative analysis. They should be your first stop if you have questions about using the software. All the developers of these software packages maintain well used discussion lists. No question is too elementary. Even if you do not have a question, it is a good idea to collect answers to questions raised in these groups. You are likely to have similar questions at some point in your analysis.

Discussion Lists and Web-sites on Qualitative Research

These more general lists extend their remit beyond just the nuts and bolts of using a particular piece of software. Qual-software discusses software and methodological issues in qualitative research. Qualrs-l is a very popular list for discussing a wide range of issues to do with qualitative research. Anthro-l will be of interest to anthropologists. Sosig is a resource web-site for social scientists in general. The Qualitative Page is a resource web-site for qualitative researchers.

Training in qualitative methods

Training in qualitative methods, particularly different approaches to analysis, is hard to find. SdG recommends the following training and will be adding more to this list.
(E-mail SdG if you can recommend a good qualitative analysis course.)

Although this is oriented towards quantitative techniques, there are workshops on qualitative data analysis, participant observation and focus groups. It is worth checking out what is on offer.

Day Courses at the Sociology Department, University of Surrey, U.K.

It is well worth checking this site as they often have one day workshops on particular approaches to qualitative analysis and data collection
